Two members of the NSCN (K-Niki) have been reportedly arrested by Tobu police station team under Mon DEF on charges of kidnapping and extortion on June 5 last.
According to Mon police PRO, the arrested persons identified as identified as Bechung Konyak (40), Konyak region secretary, and ‘ss lieut’ Kassam Konyak (27) had forcefully taken two persons and their vehicle towards Wangshu village road at Tobu town on June 3 and forcefully extorted Rs. 5000 by intimidating the victims with threats of injury and loss of life. The victims were subsequently released on payment of the amount, PRO informed.
In the operation launched by Tobu police station team, the two accused persons were nabbed on June 5 and the sum of money was recovered.
In this connection, a case was registered with Tobu police station under relevant sections of law, PRO said adding that investigation was still on.
