2 held on charges of extortion

Two persons were apprehended on charges of demanding money from the traders in the name of NSCN (K) in Kohima town on Wednesday.  In a press statement, SDPO & PRO, Kohima, Atu Zumvü said acting on a tipoff, a joint team comprising of DEF Kohima mobile unit, district intelligence branch and North police station arrested one person identified as Shikuto Assumi (31) from Southern Gate local ground, Kohima.
On being interrogated, the arrested revealed that he along with one Kahoto Assumi was demanding money from the traders in the name of NSCN (K), PRO said.  Accordingly, a manhunt was launched and Kahoto (51) was arrested from Razhü Point, Kohima within two hours.  The two in their confessional statement said that they were carrying out instruction of Khetoshe, a ‘Deputy Secretary in NSCN (K)’ to collect money from traders operating in and around Kohima Town area, PRO said. The vehicle maruti car (NL 0H 5318) used by the two was also seized.
“One demand note dated 25/02/16 signed by S.K Assumi, finance incharge Kohima district and issued in the name of GPRN, Office of the Military Finance NSCN/GPRN- K was also recovered”, PRO said. In this connection, a criminal case has been registered against the two at Kohima North P.S and remanded to police custody for further investigation.
