
Two women succumbed to injuries while three others were injured in an accident that took place Saturday afternoon at 3rd Mile, near Chekiye Bazaar, Dimapur. According to Police, five occupants including the driver were inside the ill-fated autorickshaw (NL 07F 9086). Police said that the auto first hit a pedestrian and toppled on the wrong side of the road which again collided with another vehicle (Mahindra XUV) coming from the opposite direction.
The injured were rushed to Zion hospital and CIHSR. However, one girl identified as Nouneu Metha (13) daughter of Neimhalie of Chiechama village and resident of 4th mile succumbed to injuries at CIHSR, police said. Later, the other injured victim identified as Epibeni Odyuo wife of Konthongo Odyou of Diphupar Village also succumbed to her injuries at CIHSR. The he injured persons identified as– Kiheto son Tovishe, S. Keni son of Lt. T. Shoba and Moarengla daughter of Tongpangshilu, were rushed to hospital for medical aid.
Meanwhile, police said that the autodriver identified as one Pukhavi son of Lt. Kivilho and a resident of Purana bazaar was arrested and under police custody.
Both the autorickshaw and the Mahindra XUV were seized and a case registered for investigation, the police said.
Police have also appealed public to refrain from spreading unconfirmed reports and from circulating photos of the accident, to respect the sentiments of affected families.
Bus rams into cars, house in Kohima
Kohima Correspondent Adds: A mini bus lost control and hit three vehicles parked by the road side and then rammed into a nearby house near NBCC convention hall here on Saturday.
Sources said the hired city bus (NL 01B 0314) was reportedly on its way to pick up the participants of Nagaland Youth summit programme.
Though there was no report of any injuries caused, however two vehicles (Maruti 800 and Santro) were badly damaged and the other car partially. Police said the mini bus driver fled from the scene, but the handy man was apprehended and in police custody at North Police station.
