2 NPP councillors join NPF

DIMAPUR, FEB 28 (NPN):

In a significant political development in the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC), two councillors of the National People’s Party (NPP) have joined the ruling Naga People’s Front (NPF), taking the NPF’s strength to 17 in the 23-member council.
Councillors Jonathan Yepthomi and Nikali Sumi Chishi joined the NPF along with their supporters at the party’s central office.
Welcoming them, NPF secretary general Achumbemo Kikon, MLA said that following the merger of two regional parties, people had realised the need for a strong regional political party to safeguard Naga identity. He said chief minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio, who is also the party president, had inspired many to join the NPF.
Kikon described NPF as a disciplined party with power rooted at the grassroots and urged the new members to uphold the people’s mandate and work for development. DMC chairman Hukheto Yepthomi thanked the party and said the councillors would uphold the party’s principles.
Mmhonlumo appointed NPP gen. secy: Former BJP national spokesperson and ex-MLA Mmhonlumo Kikon has been appointed general secretary (Political) of NPP with immediate effect.
According to a notification issued by the party and signed by NPP national president and Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma, Kikon has been entrusted with structured coordination and dialogue with various political parties and stakeholders across the Northeast for strategic alignment and consultations towards realising the vision of “One Northeast”.
Among other responsibilities, he will coordinate with state presidents and office-bearers across the region to review political developments, electoral preparedness and address inter-state organisational matters.
