2 persons arrested for highway crimes

DIMAPUR, APR 1 (NPN):

Dimapur Police arrested two absconding accused in connection with a case involving abduction, sexual assault, extortion, and robbery on July 22,2024. The arrested have been identified as Vikekhe Yeptho (34) and Hesato Yeptho (28), both wanted in connection with related cases at Chümoukedima Police Station.
According to the DCP (Crime) and PRO Dimapur Police, based on technical intelligence, the two absconding accused were traced to Bengaluru, Karnataka. An investigating officer-led team departed Dimapur on March 28, 2026, and in coordination with Bengaluru City Police, successfully apprehended both accused from Ramanna Layout under Kothanuru Police Station jurisdiction.
According to DCP/PRO, on July 22, the complainant and her relative were traveling along the four-lane highway near Old Showuba area when they were waylaid by a group of individuals. The victims were forcibly intercepted, blindfolded, and transported to an undisclosed location where they were wrongfully confined.
The female victim was subjected to sexual assault by multiple perpetrators. Both victims endured physical assault and were coerced into transferring money through digital payment platforms.
The accused seized personal property including mobile phones, cash, and gold ornaments. The victims were further threatened with circulation of compromising images to prevent disclosure.
During earlier operations, one accused linked to extortion transactions was arrested, and stolen gold ornaments positively identified by the victim were recovered. Another suspect attempting to evade police arrest met with an accident and subsequently died.
A separate case was registered at Niuland Police Station and charge-sheeted.
Police investigation revealed the accused were part of a pre-meditated criminal network targeting vulnerable persons along highway stretches. The group had allegedly committed similar offences prior to the July incident.
Police disclosed that the probe began after a complaint was filed on July 25, 2024, regarding offences committed on July 22, 2024. An FIR was registered as Case No. 12/2024 at Women Police Station Dimapur.
