A. N. Sarkar, IA & AS, Accountant General, Kohima inaugurated 68 nos of ecological friendly rain water harvesting tanks using ‘vegetable steel’ for Shankiton village constructed under NREGS 2007-08 on July 19.
During the programme, A. N. Sarkar encouraged the villagers to work cohesively towards the upliftment of the country, where 75% of Indian lives in villages.
Project Director expressed his happiness to BDO Wazhru Ralan RD Block, under whose technical direction and supervision all constructions were made and the villagers in general for their hardwork towards successful completion of the project.
Village Council Chairman also thanked the Project Director and BDO for the much needed in-time assistance and said due to cost-effective construction technology used, more numbers of households were benefited with additional tanks construction as no spending on expensive Iron rods purchase were made.
The Shankiton villagers using entirely matured and suitably treated bamboo rods in place of Iron rods constructed the 68 Nos. of 2000 Liters capacity rain water harvesting tanks.
Bamboo has a matrix of ligno-cellulose. Studies have shown that correctly constructed bamboo reinforced concrete structure on a weight/strength basis outperforms the tensile and compression strength of steel.
