23rd World Sight Day observed in Dimapur

National Programme for Control of Blindness& Visual Impairment (NPCBVI) Dimapur organised the 23rd “World Sight Day” with Bridge Programme Certificate in Community Health for Nurses (BPCCHN) students, School of Nursing, District Hospital Dimapur on the theme “love your eyes”.
In a press release, District Programme Management Unit (DPMU) Dimapur stated that during the programme, District Hospital, senior specialist Dr. Asonla Aying informed that the event was being initiated under NPCBVI with an aim to enhance public awareness on eye health.
She sensitised the participants on the six tips to ensure better eye care—regular eye check-up, be aware of all related eye diseases, wear goggles to protect the eye from UV rays, take regular break from screen and minimise screen time, regularly monitor blood pressure and blood sugar and maintain healthy lifestyle.
Dr. Asonla stated that following these six simple tips would immensely help protect the eyes and prevent many eye diseases.
She also added that the eyes were not only the mirror of the heart but also the whole body as the eyes were the first organs to manifest many systemic diseases.
In this regard, she urged upon the aspiring students to spread the awareness on eye care and the importance of regular eye check-up wherever they may work in the future.
In commemoration of the event, over 150 eye screenings for refractive error have been conducted at District Hospital Eye OPD.
