As part of the security enhancement at the Dimapur railway station, three police checkpoints have been established at all the exit points. According to DIPR, the checkpoints would operate 24/7 with officers stationed to verify identities of incoming passengers. It said the move was aimed at bolstering safety and maintain law and order in Dimapur.
On Monday, DC Dimapur Dr. Tinojongshi Chang inspected the railway station along with representatives from Police Commissionerate Dimapur. They also held a meeting with the Railway Protection Force to discuss security measures.
Dimapur Naga Students’ Union on Monday expressed concern that Dimapur was the only district that was not covered by the ILP since the formation of Nagaland in 1963, leading to unprecedented illegal immigration. DNSU said that there was no effective mechanism to check the influx of illegal immigrants into the district despite assurances from the home minister.
A delegation of Naga Students’ Federation on July 9 called on chief minister Neiphiu Rio and submitted a representation seeking “immediate and effective” intervention in the matters that required “urgent attention and action” including influx of illegal immigrants.
NSF also demanded ILP monitoring cells at Dimapur railway station, Dimapur airport and all entry/exit points to Nagaland. Further, it sought stringent implementation of ILP regime in all districts.
