25 Naga BN NCC, Mokokchung successfully summits Mount Saramati

DIMAPUR:

The 25 Naga Battalion NCC, Mokokchung, under NCC Team Kohima, scaled Mount Saramati (12,602 feet) in Kiphire district on March 19, setting a new milestone in the exploration of Nagaland’s highest peak.
The four-day high-altitude expedition included 2 officers, 3 non-commissioned officers, 4 associate NCC officers, and 38 cadets, all of whom reached the summit, completing the journey with remarkable physical endurance and technical skill.
The expedition, which began on March 19 from base camp, faced severe challenges including inclement weather, a narrow weather window, and record-breaking snowfall. The team used a traditional siege-style approach along the southern route.
The cadets said that the summit was a testament to the synergy and resilience of Team Kohima. Beyond the physical feat of reaching the top, they were proud of how they managed the risks and maintained their commitment to ‘Leave No Trace’ principles throughout the ascent. Standing on the summit of Mount Saramati was a humbling moment for all of them.
The expedition marked achievements: it was the first-ever NCC expedition to Mount Saramati, with all 47 participants successfully reaching the peak on March 19, 2026. It involved the largest uniformed contingent to scale Nagaland’s highest peak, and the team completed the descent safely with zero major injuries or incidents.
The exhibition was supported by the NER NCC directorate and NCC Group HQ Kohima, providing essential high-performance gear and logistical assistance.
