A week-long Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC) by 25 Naga Battalion National Cadet Corps (NCC), Mokokchung culminated Thursday.
A press release by PRO Defence informed that 105 cadets participated in a week-long intense training and learning curriculum which began on January 5.
Earlier, a blood donation and awareness camp in coordination with the Blood Centre, District Hospital, Mokokchung headed by Dr H Tsipongchem Sangtam was organised on January 11 at the camp site.
A large number of cadets, both girls and boys, volunteered to donate blood and become “Blood Heroes”.
A medical team from the District Hospital the carried out blood group testing of the cadets and handed out their blood group cards before the blood donation.
PRO said blood donors were chosen as per the blood groups that are frequently required at the District Hospital, Mokokchung as well as the storage capacity available in the blood centre. A total of 21 units of blood was drawn from the donors. Cadets were also screened for body vitals and communicable diseases.
Speaking on the occasion, the Camp Commandant, Col CST Swamy expressed the commitment of NCC towards social causes and vowed to make blood donation popular among the eligible NCC cadets.
He also informed that 25 Naga Battalion NCC was in consultation with the Blood Centre, Mokokchung and the Mokokchung Voluntary Blood Donors Association to establish an “NCC Blood Donors Platoon”, which would be a repository and facilitator of voluntary blood donation by NCC Cadets in all the 11 districts in the area of responsibility (AOR).
The camp culminated in a colourful cultural programme wherein cadets performed tribal dances, patriotic songs etc.
A prize distribution ceremony was organised at the Fazl Ali College Grounds followed by a Camp Fire. SUO Sentiyangla Imsong and Sgt Chubamayang, both of Fazl Ali College were awarded the “Overall Best Cadet” trophies in the boys and girls’ category. A number of prizes to the winners and runners up in drill, shooting, sports activities and cultural event were also distributed during the event.
