The 27th edition of the Mokokchung District Football Association (MDFA) Trophy 2025 commenced on Tuesday at the Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung with an electrifying opening match between Sports Society Soyim (SSS) and defending champions Konyak Students’ Union Mokokchung (KSUM).
In a tightly contested opener, SSS clinched a narrow 1-0 victory over KSUM, courtesy of a decisive goal by Chubalemba (jersey no. 11) in the 57th minute. The first half saw both teams locked in a goalless draw despite several attempts to gain the upper hand. KSUM mounted multiple attacks in the second half, but failed to convert their chances as SSS held firm to secure the win.
The tournament was formally inaugurated earlier in the day by Advisor for Information Technology & Communication, Economics & Statistics, and Evaluation, H. Sethrongkyu Sangtam, MLA who graced the occasion as the chief guest. In his address, Sangtam expressed gratitude to the organizing committee for the honor and emphasized the importance of sportsmanship and unity through football. He encouraged youth to harness their talents with discipline, sincerity, and dedication, asserting that such qualities could propel Naga athletes to excellence at all levels.
The inaugural programme also featured a welcome address by convener of the Organizing Committee Burakum, and an exhortation by SDO (C) Mokokchung, Temsuchuba.
With the tournament now underway, teams from across the district are set to compete in what promises to be a spirited celebration of football and community.
