
Curtains came down on the 3-day 27th Naga Students Federation (NSF) general conference Thursday at Tzurang valley in Mokokchung with a new team of executive members for the session 2017-18. Nagaland Minister of PWD (R&B), Y. Vikheho Swu, graced the valedictory session as special guest while Arunachal Pradesh parliamentary secretary Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs Laisam Samai was the theme guest.
Nagaland minister (R&B) Vikheho Swu , speaking on the theme ‘Amelioration’ said it was much needed in Naga society which has been subjected to fragmentation and called upon all to help bring about integration of Naga society.
He also urged upon students to be self dependent and self-reliant in order to take the society move forward while lamenting on their over dependence on government. Swu reminded students that employment in the government was already saturated and therefore, urged upon them to take up entrepreneurship and become job providers and not job seekers.
Earlier, Parliamentary Secretary, Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, Laisam Samai challenged the Naga students to be ambassadors of peace and do something for the Naga society and the state of Nagaland.
Laisam Samai, who graced the 27th NSF General Conference as the theme guest on Thursday, said that it is the duty of the students to bring peace in the society and northeast region of India.
He urged upon the student communities to look at the bigger picture, compromise on the small differences among the different northeast communities and move ahead for peace and prosperity in the region.

Laisam said Naga students through their participation in the students’ bodies can be a game changer in the society and also be ambassadors of peace and do something for the society.
HoD of Philosophy NEHU-Shillong, Dr Xavier Pfrokrehe, who was the main speaker at the morning session, enlightened the audience while exposing on the theme of the general conference ‘Amelioration’.
He said the word ‘amelioration means intellectual and moral refinement’, and for which the NSF needed to identify the changes that they need in the society and find ways about how to bring about the change.
He lamented that our society was riddled with violence, corruption and moral decadence. Dr Pfrokrehe urged upon NSF leaders not to concentrate on their narrow field but gain knowledge in inter-disciplinary fields. He particularly said that the students need to learn to be human, to be cultured and to be peace loving citizens.
He said that if the Nagas have to ‘ameliorate’, then the people need to excel, to examine, re-examine, reflect and do away with ‘tribalistic, clannish, individualistic outlook.
He urged the students to inculcate moral values so that they can bring about amelioration in the Naga society.
The morning session of the day 3 ended with a brain storming session, where in the Pros and Cons of the NSF were discussed openly and how NSF should usher Nagas to a brighter and unified Nagas tomorrow by playing a pivotal role of amelioration.
Pochury Students’ Union and the youth choir of the Mokokchung Town Baptist Church presented special numbers.
Mission director of NCRC, Rev Dr Imchayanger offered the dedicatory prayer for the newly elected executive members. Later, an entertainment nite was held where seventeen students’ unions presented different items and a special appearance by Dreams Unlimited.
