Planning & Coordination, land revenue and parl. affairs minister, Neiba Kronu Sunday said that 227.60-km road has been sanctioned under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) –II and were at various stages of completion
He also claimed that, overall, 2932.83 km of roads had been completed under various verticals of the scheme as on July 31.
Speaking at the ‘District Rural Road Seminar’ to commemorate the 75 years of India’s Independence ‘Azadi Ki Amrit Mahotsav’ at DC’s conference hall Wokha, Kronu asserted that since its inception, 4382.5 km of roads have been sanctioned in Nagaland under PMGSY till July 2021 against 116 eligible habitations identified for coverage.
Further, he claimed that 109 eligible and feasible habitations under the scheme and seven under State’s various schemes were provided all-weather road connectivity.
Additionally, he said 53 bridges were also sanctioned under the PMGSY so far, out of which 21 bridges were complete, while another 20 bridges were at launching stage, adding that the implementation period of PMGSY-III was till March 2025.
He said projects sanctioned under PMGSY-I and II would be formally wound up by August 2022, adding that all the works were expected to be completed by March 31, 2022.
As per the provisions of Standard Bidding Document, 2020, followed for maintenance of PMGSY roads, Kronu mentioned that a contractor building a PMGSY road was liable to ensure maintenance of its quality for five years from the date of its completion during the defect liability period (DLP).
He said the State government was providing funds for maintenance of the completed roads and that the expenditure would be incurred as per the guidelines of the Union ministry of road transport & highways.
With new technologies now available for road construction, he hoped that the quality of the roads would also improve.
