DIMAPUR, JUN 22 (NPN): The Basketball Association Mokokchung District (BAMD) will organise the second edition of the Inter-School and Higher Secondary School Basketball Tournament from August 5 to 7, at the BAMD Basketball Court, Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung.
The decision was finalized during the first meeting of the organising and sub-committees held on June 19, where members discussed the tournament schedule and other related arrangements.
Organised under the theme, “Forging Future,” the tournament aims to nurture young basketball talent and promote the sport at the grassroots level. The event seeks to provide students with a platform to showcase their abilities while fostering values such as sportsmanship, discipline, teamwork, and leadership.
The tournament is open to all high schools and higher secondary schools across Mokokchung district, including institutions from towns, villages, and subdivisions. Schools from outside the district are also invited to participate.
According to the organising committee, several schools from four districts outside Mokokchung had expressed interest in participating during the inaugural edition. Building on that response, the invitation has been extended to interested schools beyond the district for this year’s tournament.
The organisers stated that the event is intended to strengthen basketball development among students by promoting healthy competition, skill enhancement, and greater exposure to the sport. The tournament will also be conducted as an annual running trophy event.
To support participating teams, coaching assistance will be made available upon request, with mentors assigned to help schools prepare for the competition.
