The three-day annual 2nd St. Joseph University Trophy concluded on October 7 participated by 23 institutions from across the state in three discipline, Football (Men), Volleyball and Basketball (Men and Women).
In men’s football, Dimapur Government College was declared the winner while Patkai Christian College stood as the runners-up team. For men’s basketball, St Joseph College, Kohima was the champion team while Tetso College took the runners-up position. In women’s basketball, St Joseph College, Kohima emerged as the winner and Don Bosco College, Kohima was placed as the runners-up team. In men’s volleyball, St Joseph University (Team A) was declared the champion and Salesian College of Higher Education (Team B) as the runners-up team. While in women’s volleyball, Dimapur Government College bagged the first position with ICFAI University as the runners-up team.
All the champion teams took home a whopping amount of Rs. 20,000 (Football), Rs. 12,000 (Basketball), and Rs. 10,000 (Volleyball) with certificates and mementos. While the runners-up teams were each awarded a prize money of Rs. 10,000 (Football), Rs. 6,000 (Basketball), Rs. 6,000 (Volleyball) with certificates and mementos.
Apart from these, there were also individual honours and titles awarded with prize money and certificate in recognition of their talents and contribution in the sports and game; the titles were best goalkeeper and player of the tournament in football; Most valuable player in basketball; best spiker, best setter and best player in volleyball, for both categories.
Dimapur Government College emerged as the overall champion. There were 22 competing teams for men’s football game, 13 teams for men’s basketball and 8 teams in women’s category, 18 teams for men’s volleyball and 11 teams in women’s category respectively.
Certificates of the most valuable and most extraordinary performers were distributed. Cash prizes, mementos and certificates were given away in the presence of the authorities, faculties, participants and well-wishers.
The valedictory programme began with the National Anthem led by SJU choir, assistant professor, Department of Zoology, Dr. Magdalene, invocation by PRO of SJU Father Anish, while word of gratitude was proposed by assistant professor Department of Economics, Sashirenla.
