3-way tussle within Cong for Kerala CM post

The Congress-led UDF’s victory in Kerala has triggered an intense leadership race for the chief minister’s post, with K.C. Venugopal, Ramesh Chennithala and V.D. Satheesan emerging as the main contenders.
Venugopal, who arrived in Delhi to a grand reception by party workers, is being projected as a key strategist behind the UDF’s victory. Party sources indicated that the show of support was carefully organised to highlight his role and draw the attention of the central leadership. His proximity to the high command and organisational influence at the national level are seen as strengthening his claim.
Chennithala, a senior leader and former Leader of the Opposition, is relying on his experience and long-standing ambition for the top post.
Having remained a consistent contender, he is leveraging both his political seniority and support within the party structure to press his case.
In contrast, Satheesan has stayed in Kerala, drawing large public gatherings and grassroots support. Widely seen as the face of the Opposition during the campaign, his popularity has been growing, with supporters crediting him for energising the party on the ground.
However, he has refrained from staking a direct claim, maintaining that the party leadership will decide.
With signals from Delhi expected to play a decisive role, the final choice is likely to depend on a balance between organisational influence, seniority and mass appeal within the party.
