DIMAPUR, OCT 5 (NPN): Around 30 dengue cases have been reported in different parts of Dimapur and Chümoukedima, prompting health authorities to intensify preventive measures, while maintaining that the situation was “not very alarming” at present.
According to the district vector-borne officer (DVBO) under the office of the chief medical officer (CMO), Dimapur, none of the reported cases was critical and no patients were currently hospitalised with dengue. CMO office said a rise in dengue cases was expected during the current season and urged residents to take necessary preventive measures. District Hospital Dimapur has been kept prepared to respond to any requirement, while its blood centre has also been alerted as part of the preparedness measures and reported sufficient blood stock.
However, officials said that early detection and appropriate clinical management generally meant blood transfusion was not required in dengue cases. DVBO stressed that prevention remained key to controlling the spread of dengue and urged residents to keep their surroundings clean and prevent accumulation of stagnant water, which provides breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
Fogging was being carried out in areas where dengue cases were detected, while the health department was also undertaking anti-larval measures to control mosquito breeding. DVBO appealed to the public to cooperate with health authorities and maintain cleanliness in residential areas and their surroundings to help prevent further spread.
