32 injured in bus accident in Kohima

32 people were injured as a private bus from Dimapur bound for Satakha met with an accident at Nphiecha colony, D. Khel, here on Saturday around 11 a.m.
Eye witnesses said the bus went out of control as it ramped into an Alto taxi parked on the side of the road and subsequently went downhill into the paddy fields some 70 feet below the highway.
All the 32 passengers onboard the bus including three passengers in the taxi were injured. Two passengers of the bus and one from the taxi were admitted into the ICU. One of the victims admitted at Oking Hospital said, the driver had not hinted at any malfunctioning of the bus.
She, however said, the driver was angry over some issues prior to the accident, which she said might have contributed to the accident.
All the victims were transferred to various hospitals in Kohima by locals in the vicinity and commercial vehicles plying along the stretch of road.
Driver of the bus was suspected to have absconded after the incident however it could not be ascertained from the police. The passengers confirmed that they were on their way to their native villages to exercise their adult franchise as the state goes to election on February 27.
