A youth leader of a political party from Dimapur, along with three accomplices, was arrested by Assam Police and Excise Department on the night of August 12 for allegedly smuggling a large consignment of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL).
According to Assam police sources, the group was intercepted while transporting 90 cases of IMFL in three vehicles—one of which was reportedly government-registered. The operation was carried out based on intelligence inputs, and all four individuals have been booked under relevant legal provisions. They are expected to face trial in Assam.
The seized liquor and vehicles are currently in the custody of Assam authorities. Investigations are underway to trace the supply network and identify other beneficiaries linked to the illegal trade.
The arrest has raised concerns over misuse of official resources and the growing nexus between illicit trade and public figures.
