SHILLONG, JUN 3: Four children from Assam’s Jorhat district, who were holidaying here in Meghalaya without their parents’ knowledge, were handed over to their families on June 1, police said on Wednesday.
District police chief of East Khasi Hills, Vivek Syiem said the four children came to Shillong for sightseeing on May 31, without informing their parents.
Syiem said a search operation was conducted involving a team from the Sadar Police Station along with officers from the Women Police Station. The children (two males and 2 females) between the ages of 16 to 17 years were found at the JK International Hotel in Police Bazar. A 26-year-old male adult was also found with them, he added.
During the enquiry, the minor girls stated they were friends and the other two children are cousins. They further revealed that they came here for sightseeing without telling their parents.
The children were handed over to a police team from Jorhat, along with the children’s families at the Sadar Police Station on June 2, he said.
