4 receive District-Level Teachers Award in Kohima

DIMAPUR

The District-Level Teachers Award ceremony for Kohima was held on September 3 at the Office of the District Education Officer (DEO), Kohima, with Deputy Commissioner B. Henok Buchem gracing the occasion as special guest.
According to DIPR report, four teachers were conferred with the award in recognition of their dedication and contribution to education. The recipients included Neitsizonuo Liezietsu, Graduate Teacher, GPS Kenuozou; B. Sentimongla, Graduate Teacher, Government High School PWD Kohima; Orenvungo Yanthan, Post Graduate Teacher, Rüzhükhrie Government Higher Secondary School; and Neilazetuo Khezhie, Physical Education Teacher, Dr. N. Kire Government Higher Secondary School.
Congratulating the awardees, DC Buchem noted that out of 400 teachers in the district, only four were selected, each deserving of the honour.
He described the award as a reflection of their tireless efforts to bring out the best in students. Highlighting Kohima’s legacy as the first district and state capital since 1879, he said serving in the district is both a privilege and a responsibility, urging teachers to lead by example.
Buchem emphasised that teaching is not merely a profession but a calling, requiring empathy and compassion in shaping young minds. The DC further invited students aspiring for civil services or government roles to spend a day with him in administrative work, offering them a glimpse into public service.
Speaking on behalf of the awardees, Orenvungo expressed gratitude and dedicated the recognition to students, colleagues, and officers-in-charge. He stated that the award has inspired them to strive for greater excellence.
Earlier, DEO Kohima Emilo Patton delivered the welcome address. Taümei Phom, PT, GHS Midland, shared her experiences as a teacher, while SDEO Chiephobozou Visasielie Suohu proposed the vote of thanks. The programme also featured “An Ode to Teachers” presented by Dr. N. Kire GHSS and a special song by students of GMS P. Khel.
