The by-election elections to 43 Tapi assembly constituency scheduled to be held on November 7, is likely to witness a straight fight between ruling NDPP and Congress.
According to Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee, the party has recommended Wanglem Konyak as its official candidate. Wanglem, had recently joined the Congress. He contested as NPF candidate in the 2023 Assembly polls and lost to NDPP candidate Noke Wangnao by 82 votes.
On Monday, Wanglem was welcomed to the Congress party fold led by its president S Supongmeren Jamir at a function held at Congress Bhavan, Kohima.
On the other hand, the NDPP will be issuing party ticket to its official candidate on Tuesday at NDPP Head quarters, Chümoukedima.
It may be mentioned that NDPP unit presidents of 15 villages under 43 Tapi constituency had “unanimously” decided to support the candidature of Wangpang Konyak for the bye-poll. The 43-Tapi seat fell vacant following the demise of sitting MLA and advisor Social Welfare Noke Wangnao on August 28.
