4th Metümnyo Fest football tourney begins at Sangphur

DIMAPUR, AUG 4 (AGENCIES): The 4th Metümnyo Festival Football Tournament, organised by the Sangphur Village Students Union in association with the Shamator District Football Association (SDFA) and sponsored by the Department of Youth Resources & Sports, Government of Nagaland, commenced on Tuesday at Sangphur village.
According to a DIPR report, the tournament was formally inaugurated by SDO (C) Shamator, Athrong Yimkhiung, who lauded the organisers for providing a platform to young football aspirants. He expressed hope that under the guidance of SDFA, local players would rise to greater opportunities. Stressing the importance of discipline and perseverance, he remarked that “talent alone cannot achieve one’s goals, but with hard work, sacrifice and proper coaching, a bright future awaits the children.”
Vice president of SDFA, Solumba, acknowledged the Sangphur Village Students Union for successfully organising the event.
He assured that outstanding players from the tournament would be selected to represent Shamator District in the forthcoming inter-district Dr. T. Ao Tournament scheduled to be held in Mokokchung from October 12 to 30. He further encouraged participants to uphold discipline and maintain the spirit of the game.
Earlier, president of the Sangphur Village Students Union, Shokheamong, delivered the welcome address, while pastor of Sangphur Village Baptist Church, Rev. Z. Thsankiu, dedicated the programme.
