5 apex bodies form Tenyimia Women Union Nagaland

Five apex tribal women organizations of the Tenyimia, comprising of Chakhesang, Pochury, Rengma, Zeliangrong and Angami, have formed a new organization to be called “Tenyimia Women Union Nagaland” (TWUN).


In a statement, Chakhesang Mothers Association president and TWUN sessional president Zhonelu Tunyi and Angami Women Organization general secretary and sessional secretary Chozhüle Kikhi said that the five apex bodies, as the founding members, held its first meeting at AWO building Kohima on September 15, 2023 and decided to form TWUN, with the objective to foster better understanding, unity and cooperation amongst the sister tribes.


As decided on August 12, 2023 at Hotel East Gate, after “Solidarity Prayer for Violence against Women and Social Unrest in Manipur”, they said each tribe nominated two women representatives as potential office bearers to lead TWUN for a period of three years.

Accordingly, the office bearers were appointed, led by Zhovelu Tunyi (Chakhesang) as president, Keshenle Seb (Rengma) as general secretary, vice presidents– Ruokuoheü Miachieo (Angami) and Apeuna Iheilung (Zeliangrong), Chiwiesa Nyuwi (Pochury) as treasurer including five other executive members and three advisors. The meeting was chaired by Zhovelu Tunyi and the meeting proceedings was recorded by Chozhüle Kikhi.
