Barpeta, Jul 8 (PTI): Five suspected drug peddlers were arrested with heroin, Yaba tablets and banned cough syrup in a series of anti-narcotics operations across Assam’s Barpeta district, police said on Wednesday.
The raids were conducted in Barpeta town, Barpeta Road, Howly and Sarthebari, they said.
At Barpeta Road, police seized 0.76 grams of heroin packed in eight vials, 240 Yaba tablets, Rs 42,940 in cash and two mobile phones. In Barpeta town, officials recovered 0.52 grams of heroin, five Yaba tablets, 63 empty containers and two syringes. The operation at Howly led to the seizure of 11.84 gram of heroin concealed in a soap box, 0.01 grams of heroin kept in a plastic vial and a mobile phone.
In Sarthebari, police recovered 172 bottles of banned cough syrup suspected to be meant for illegal distribution. Five persons were arrested in connection with the seizures, and further investigation is underway, police said.
