DIMAPUR, OCT 26 (NPN): Five persons were killed and another injured in a firing incident at Hotel Bilas Inn in the Bora Service area, Guwahati around 9 p.m. Tuesday, Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, Dr. P Sarathi Mahanta said.
One of the accused, identified as Ghanakanta Gogoi, was apprehended, and the weapon used in the firing was seized, he said. According to Mahanta, four of the deceased belonged to the same family, while the fifth was from their village. The injured person was also from the same village and is undergoing treatment.
As per reports, Hotel owner Helena Bharali, her son Debarshi Kashyap and her driver were among those killed. Narayan Das, another victim, succumbed to his injuries.
Based on preliminary investigation, police suspect that the incident stemmed from a property dispute related to the lease agreement of Hotel Bilas Inn between the owner’s side and the person who had taken the hotel on lease. He said the investigation was still at a preliminary stage and further updates would be provided.
