5 Tribes CoRRP reiterates core demands

DIMAPUR, JUN 30 (NPN)

The 5 Tribes Committee on Review of Reservation Policy (CoRRP) has expressed deep concern over the “continued inaction” of the state government despite the cabinet’s decision to set up a commission to review the current reservation policy.
In a statement, the 5 Tribes CoRRP convenor Er Tesinlo Semy and member secretary GK Zhimomi acknowledged the announcement to form the commission but regretted that the state government was yet to respond to its two core demands: either scrap the existing Reservation Policy or allocate the unreserved quota to the five tribes.
CoRRP recalled that during June 3, 2025 meeting, it had “clearly and firmly” conveyed to the state government to come to a decision on those two fundamental issues. However, CoRRP regretted that there has been no substantive progress or official communication in this regard.”
The CoRRP also clarified that the composition of the proposed commission should exclude civil society organizations (CSOs) from its membership. It said this was essential to uphold neutrality, fairness and integrity of the Commission’s work and to prevent any conflict of interest or undue influence.
The 5 Tribes CoRRP therefore, urged the state government to “act decisively and transparently” in addressing those long-standing concerns. It also affirmed its commitment for constructive engagement while reserving its right to initiate appropriate democratic measures if these issues were not unaddressed within a reasonable timeframe.
