DIMAPUR: A 50 day Guru Shishya Hastshilp Prashikshan Programme (GSHPP) on cane and bamboo craft was officially launched at Pukhato Village, Kuhuboto, under Niuland District on September 28, 2026.
The programme was sponsored by the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, under the National Handicrafts Development Programme (NHDP)- Skill Development in Handicraft Sector (SDHS), and implemented by the Nagaland Handloom & Handicrafts Development Corporation (NHHDC) Ltd., Dimapur.
A total of 30 selected local artisans are participating in the hands on training workshop, which will run for two months. Under the guidance of an empanelled Master Craftsperson, artisans will upgrade their skills, learn modern techniques and improve product quality. Participants are being provided with raw materials, tools and a daily stipend throughout the training period.
Speaking at the inauguration, Itoka Sumi, Deputy General Manager (Project), NHHDC Ltd., encouraged the trainees to make full use of the programme to enhance craft standards, explore market opportunities and contribute to Nagaland’s rich handicraft heritage.
The training programme will continue for its full duration of 50 days, from September 28 to November 24, 2026, with continuous monitoring and inspection by officials from the Handicrafts Service Centre to ensure quality instruction and successful implementation.
