The 3-day 51st biennial general conference of All Sumi Students’ Union (SKK) concluded on January 24 at multi-purpose hall, Zunheboto Town. In a press release, SKK through its media cell stated that speaking at the programme, president Sumi Hoho, Nikheto Jimomi exhorted the gathering and said that All Sumi Students’ Union is one of the major stakeholders which has a major role to contribute for the society particularly for the students’ community. He urged the congregation to uphold the moral integrity of SKK and continue to usher peace and prosperity for the Sumi and Nagas society.
Jimomi reminded that the recent initiatives of “Citizens Good Roads Campaign” for 65 Km in Zunheboto district by Sumi Hoho was successful because of people’s contribution and informed that the work order has been issued under PMGSY – III for construction of roads.
He appealed to everyone to co-operate the state government and the civil societies for smooth construction of roads under Zunheboto district.
He stated that to facilitate unity and peace, Sumi Hoho has also organised 40 days of “Chain of Prayer” for different dominations and appealed every Sumi individual to continue to play a role for unification of Sumi community.
Jimomi also exhorted the students to grab the opportunity in different fields to be self-equipped and for sustainable livelihoods and encouraged to practice dignity of labour. He asked the students and youths to take the challenges as a responsible citizen and live an independent life.
He further said that in some areas, Sumi also still lack basic infrastructural development, therefore he was of the opinion that backward reservation should be implemented in certain in pocket/block wise for equal proportion of development in the region.
The SKK also elected its new team led by Gihuka K Zhimo as the president and Toshika K Kiba as the general secretary for the tenure 2024-25.
