54 pharmacies shut down in Mokokchung

In a major crackdown on pharmacies operating without licensed personnel, the Drugs Control Officer, Mokokchung, with support from the district administration, police, Watsu Mungdang, and Ao Kaketshir Mundang, conducted a three-day enforcement drive from April 3 to 5, 2025, resulting in the closure of 54 pharmacies in Mokokchung town.
Informing this in a press note, CMO office Mokokchung said that the action was taken in pursuance of cancellation orders issued by the Controlling & Licensing Authority, Drugs Control Administration (DCA), Department of Health and Family Welfare. The affected pharmacies were found to be operating without employing Registered Pharmacists, thereby violating Rule 65(2) of the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, 1945, and Section 42 of the Pharmacy Act, 1948.
Despite several public notices issued by the DCA earlier, these pharmacies failed to comply with regulatory requirements, prompting the authorities to act decisively. The DCA has extended its sincere appreciation to all supporting departments and civil society organizations for their cooperation during the enforcement exercise.
