558 candidates file nominations till Jan 7; nil for 6 civic bodies

Altogether 558 candidates filed thier nomination papers till January 7, 2017 for the forthcoming Municipal/Town councils poll across the state while no one had filed nominations for– Kohima Municipal Council, Mokokchung Municipal Council, Kiphire Town Council, Tuensang Town Council, Mon Town Council and Changtongya Town Council. 
According to ADC Kohima and Returning Officer for KMC election, Lithrongla Tongpi, 31 nomination papers have been issued but none of them came forward to file nomination.  She however said that the situation in Kohima has been by and large under control despite stiff opposition from various civil societies and NGOs restraining the candidates from filing nomination.
For Dimapur Municipal Council, a total of 15 candidates including 6 women submitted nomination papers to Returning Officer, of which four were from the BJP, seven Independents and four Congress. Further, a total of 14 candidates including seven women candidates filed nominations for 11 wards under Chumukedima Town Council (CTC) on Friday. The candidates-11 NPF and four Independents, submitted their nomination papers to Returning Officer DC Office Dimapur.
In Meluri Town Council 6 Independent candidates including a lone woman filed nominations. Six more candidates filed nominations for Aboi Town Council on NPF and Congress tickets. 
In Wokha Town Council one Independent candidate filed the nomination while in Bhandari Town Council three Congress (two women) and two Independents both women.   In Tuli Town Council three Independents and one BJP filed nominations, while in Tizit Town Council BJP fielded nine and a lone Independent. 
In Pungro Town Council eight candidates including four women filed nominations- one NPF, six Independent and one BJP and in Tobu Town Council two each Independent and BJP. Four more candidates- three BJP and one Independent, filed thier nomination for the East Dimapur Town Council and one Independent for Tseminyu Town Council. 
Seven candidates including three women filed nominations for Peren Town Council– four Independents and three Congress while for  Phek Town Council polls one NPF, two Congress and one Independent filed thier nominations.
Another seven candidates including four women filed nomination papers for Mangkolemba Town Council Saturday.  ADC Mangkolemba Wapang Aier told Nagaland Post that so far 13 nomination papers for nine wards were received.
In Kiphire Town Council for 11 wards (4 reserved), 18 candidates including 6 women filed nominations- 10 NPF, 6 Independents, 1 BJP and 1 Congress. 
In Pungro, for 9 wards, 19 candidates including 7 women filed nominations -9 NPF, 9 Independents and 1 BJP.
For Zunheboto Town Council, a total of 10 candidates- one each from NPF and Congress and eight Independents filed thier nominations on Saturday, out of which four were females and six male.
Corrigendum: Apropos to news item published on January 6 under the caption “Kiphire CSO agree to allow filing nominations” in the first paragraph, Pungro Town Council should be read as Kiphire Town Council. The error is regretted.
