Mokokchung, Sep 3 (NPN): The Mokokchung District Village Development Board Association (MDVDBA) convened its 5th general conference on Thursday at the Community Hall, Mokokchung village, with Deputy Commissioner Mokokchung, Ajit Kumar Verma, as the guest of honour and project director DRDA, Imyapangla, as the special guest.
Delivering his address, DC Ajit Kumar Verma acknowledged the significant developmental activities undertaken by the Village Development Boards (VDBs) across the district. He described the VDB as a unique institution well-suited to Nagaland, calling it a hybrid model of governance that blends Naga customary practices with modern administrative systems. Verma urged the VDBs to reflect on their achievements thus far and to align future developmental activities with the collective aspirations of the community. He emphasized the need for a rectified and definite action plan with proper guidelines to achieve self-reliant villages.
The DC further encouraged the VDBs to explore entrepreneurship opportunities by establishing mini-manufacturing units in villages.
He also stressed the importance of investing in Anganwadis, schools and the health sector to strengthen grassroots development.
Special guest Imyapangla, highlighted the programmes and roles of VDBs in transforming the 88 recognized villages under nine blocks of Mokokchung district.
Earlier, short speeches were delivered by Village Council Chairman of Mokokchung village, Mapuyanger, and Village Council Chairman of Nokpu, I. Sashimemeren Walling. The welcome address was delivered by MDVDBA president, Chutensangba, while a special song was presented by LimaOnen Kichu. The invocation was pronounced by MBA pastor, Imti, and the benediction by MDVDBA treasurer, Wati Kichu.
During the conference, a new team of office bearers was also announced. Bendang Walling was elected as president, Imtiyanger as vice-president, Obangonen Jamir as general secretary, Imchayanger as assistant general secretary, Supongsashi and Imtemsu as finance secretaries, and Wati Kichu as treasurer.
