Assam Rifles personnel on the intervening night of April 27 and 28 rescued six civilians and arrested five NSCN (I-M) cadres. In a statement, PRO (Defence) said that the victims, some from Assam and Bihar, were kidnapped by NSCN (I-M) cadres between April 13 and 27 from different places. They held captive for ransom at Bamanpukhri area, Dimapur, “apparently an illegal place for similar nefarious activities by NSCN IM”, PRO said.
PRO named the NSCN cadres as– ‘lieut.’ Khenito Assumi, ‘2nd lt.’ Neison, ‘lance cpl.’ Mughahuto, ‘sgt.’ Chonpenthung Murry and ‘sgt.’ Katoho Yeptho.
The rescued persons were identified as– Mulutayo Kezo, headmaster Govt High School, Kikruma, kidnapped on April 25; Akito Sumi resident of Dimapur kidnapped on April 27; Raju Gupta (Bihar), kidnapped on April 21; Raj Kumar Das (Assam), kidnapped on April 21; Piyar Ali from (Assam), kidnapped on April 13 and Huvito Sumi, resident of Dimapur, kidnapped on April 27.
