6 held in Mizoram with heroin, meth tablets

Aizawl, Jun 17 (PTI): Mizoram’s Excise and Narcotics Department along with the Assam Rifles seized 591 gm of heroin and methamphetamine tablets weighing around 950 gm, and arrested six people during separate operations in the northeastern state, officials said. The biggest haul was made in Aizawl’s Khatla area late on Tuesday, where 350 gm of heroin packed in 30 soap cases was seized, they said. Earlier on Tuesday, another operation at Temple Square in Aizawl’s Tuikual South area led to the seizure of 241 gm of heroin, according to an official statement.
In a separate operation, personnel of the department and the Field Intelligence Unit (FIU) of the Assam Rifles intercepted a consignment of 9,786 methamphetamine tablets weighing around 950 gm at Tlangsam village in east Mizoram’s Champhai district near the Myanmar border, it said.
Altogether, six people were arrested in connection with the seizures, including a Myanmar national, the statement added.
All the accused have been booked under sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
