IMPHAL, SEP 8 (NPN): United Naga Council (UNC) on Tuesday announced that the ongoing inter-district economic blockade on national highways in Manipur would be intensified indefinitely from 1 a.m. Wednesday, demanding justice and accountability for the six Naga hostages allegedly killed by Kuki armed groups in Kangpokpi district.
In a statement, the UNC said the decision was taken at an Emergency Presidential Council Meeting held at Ukhrul on September 2.
“Pursuant to the resolution adopted at an Emergency Presidential Council Meeting held 2nd September, 2026 at Ukhrul, the ongoing inter-district economic blockade will be intensified indefinitely on all National Highways, including NH-202 (Jessami), NH-37 (Jiribam), and NH-102A (Tadubi-Ukhrul) in addition to NH-2 with effect from 1.00 am of 9th September 2026,” it stated.
UNC said all goods-laden vehicles would be stopped from plying, while vehicles carrying essential emergency services, including medical supplies, media personnel, power, telecom and water supply, would be exempted.
The apex Naga body said the blockade was a collective expression of grievances and a call for justice and accountability over the six Nagas who were allegedly brutally killed, mutilated and dismembered on May 13, 2026.
It appealed to the general public to extend cooperation to the movement “until justice is delivered”.
