Kohima, Jun 11 (NPN): Six wrestlers from Nagaland will proudly represent India at the upcoming Asian Belt Wrestling Championship 2026, scheduled to be held in Fergana, Uzbekistan, from June 12 to 14.
The Indian contingent, led by president of the Traditional Wrestling Association of India, Sudesh Kumar, features six Naga athletes competing across different weight categories. Menuosetuo Yiese has been appointed as the head coach of the Indian team, while Neisazo Dzűvichù will serve as an international referee at the prestigious continental event.
The participating wrestlers from Nagaland are: Mezhiivotuo Kire – Below 57 kg; Bodevi Kire – Below 62 kg; Kediselie Kire – Below 68 kg; Khriekethozo Keriitsii – Below 90 kg; Dziesevolie Rutsa – Below 100 kg; Mengulhoulie Linyii – Above 100 kg.
Additionally, Deepak from Haryana will compete in the Below 82 kg category.
The championship is expected to bring together some of Asia’s finest belt wrestlers, offering the Naga athletes a valuable opportunity to showcase their talent on the international stage. Their participation is seen as a significant step in promoting traditional wrestling and enhancing Nagaland’s presence in global sports.
