6 suspected smugglers held in Manipur

Imphal, Aug 21 (PTI): Six suspected smugglers were arrested with drugs worth over Rs 27 crore in Manipur’s Jiribam district, a statement said on Friday.
The operation was jointly conducted by Assam Rifles and Manipur Police in the Tupidhar area on Thursday, it said.
Acting on information about the movement of suspected smugglers through the Barak river, Assam Rifles troops intercepted a boat and pursued the occupants after they allegedly attempted to flee, it said.
The suspects were nabbed, and the operation led to the seizure of 90,000 Yaba tablets valued at Rs 27 crore, along with 48 grams of heroin worth Rs 28.80 lakh, the statement said.
Those arrested were identified as Elbethel Lungtau, Pana Hmar, Denthar Hmar, Laltiunglien Hmar, Lal Ramthar Hmar and Thowna Hmar.
The accused and the seized narcotics were handed over to Boro Bekra Police for further investigation.
