678 participate in ‘Run 4 Green Dimapur’ to promote clean air and greener city

Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) organized “Run 4 Green Dimapur” marathon on Saturday as part of the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP). A total of 678 runners participated in the event. The run was flagged off from Urban Haat at 5 a.m., covering Purana Bazar, Burma Camp, Khermahal, and Clock Tower before concluding outside the DMC office at Forest Colony.
The event was organised by DMC in collaboration with the district administration, Development Authority of Nagaland, Department of Environment and Climate Change, Nagaland Pollution Control Board, National Youth Climate Consortium (NYCC), and NGOs including Earth Alliance, Pro Rural, Team Better Dimapur and CanYouth.
In the men’s open category, Abhishek Yadav emerged champion, with Prince Yadav securing the runner-up position. Tsuchoi clinched first place in the women’s open category, while Songmo finished second. Winners in both categories received Rs.15,000 each, while runners-up were awarded Rs. 10,000.
In the junior boys’ category, Chuimithan Zimik took the top spot, followed by Andan as runner-up, while in the junior girls’ category, Supai emerged winner and Apoang finished second. Winners in these categories received Rs. 10,000 each, while the runners-up bagged Rs.5,000.
Addressing the gathering, DMC CEO Thungchanbemo Tungoe said the marathon was not merely about finishing the race but about showing care for the planet. He emphasised the need to make Dimapur greener and cleaner, describing the event as “just the beginning.” He also urged citizens to pledge their commitment towards protecting the environment and improving air quality.
Short addresses were delivered by director and founding member of Earth Alliance Nagaland, L.H. Thangi Mannen, member secretary of NPCB, K. Hukato Chishi, and EAC, Dimapur, Imlijungla Lemtur. Boka Rochill highlighted the role of the National Youth Climate Consortium (NYCC), while the vote of thanks was given by C. Thsapise Anar.
