7 NCD councillors appeal to tribal leaders, elders for cooperation

Councillors of Naga Council Dimapur (NDC) representing seven tribal units have appealed to their respective tribal leaders and elders to cooperate with NCD and give them an opportunity to serve the council representing their communities in the larger interest of public and for welfare of NCD, which was the apex civil society group in Dimapur district.
This was resolved at a meeting of the councillors where the statement of seven tribal units declaring their non-cooperation with NCD was discussed at length.
In a joint statement, the seven councillors NCD vice-president council bench GK Rengma; joint secretary Gangangpou; treasurer Loula-o Usou and councillors– K Francis Zeliang, James Akum, Zandi Domta Zeliang, Sachutho Pujar Pochury and SachutI Alikkatitiry, reminded the seven tribal unit leaders and elders that they were nominated by the tribal units to NCD for 2020-2025 tenure. The councillors claimed that accordingly they joined the council and took oath to serve faithfully to the best of their abilities, bear true allegiance to NCD and uphold the integrity and defend the constitution of the council for five years term from the date of commencement of office.
They stated that as a prevalent practice of NCD for last several years and like any other civil society group, former office bearers constituted a search/selection commission on July 4, 2020.
The commission then convened a general meeting on July 22, 2020 and administered the oath of secrecy to all the new councillors nominated by the respective affiliated tribal bodies.
Then, with the approval of general body, a new team of office bearers were appointed on the same day by the commission in presence of tribal presidents and other officials.
Similarly, a three-member Search/Selection Committee was appointed from among the senior councillors after the unfortunate demise of former president K Ghokheto Chophy and appointed against the vacant post of president and subsequent vacant post of vice-president (administration) on August 7, 2020 in the presence of councillors and tribal presidents, including officials of DUCCF, NWHD, DNSU and GB Union (Dimapur Sadar), etc.
Thus, the seven councillors claimed that the processes and procedures carried out by the Search/selection Commissions and appointment of office bearers/executives of NCD were as per the existing constitution of the council and as had been practised for past several years.
Mentioning that they had thus been serving NCD sincerely to the best of their abilities by upholding the integrity and protecting the interest of the communities, they declared that they would continue serving the council in the remaining period of their present tenure.
