Special Judge, POCSO Act, Kohima sentenced a 70-year-old man to 20 years rigorous imprisonment on charge of raping a minor girl. An FIR was filed by Jotsoma Women Organisation president and secretary at Kohima Women Police Station on September 12, 2018 alleging that Vizielie Peseyie had raped one 11-year-old girl on several occasions and that he was caught red handed on September 9.
On the basis of the FIR, a case was registered and UBSI S Yawao took up the investigation. After thorough investigation and on establishing prima facie case, the investigating officer submitted charge sheet against the accused.
After hearing the arguments advanced by special public prosecutor Kathu Rengma and the defence counsel, and taking into consideration the material evidence on record, special judge Khesheli Chishi found accused Vizielie Peseyie guilty of rape of a minor under section 376AB IPC and accordingly convicted and sentenced him to jail for 20 years.
The judge also ordered the convict to pay Rs one lakh as compensation to the victim under the Nagaland Victim Compensation Scheme.
To prove the case, the prosecution examined nine prosecution witnesses during trial. The verdict was delivered on January 13. This was stated in a press release by the special public prosecutor.
