70th ‘All India Cooperative Week’ observed in Kohima, Tuensang, Jalukie

The 70th “All India Cooperative Week” was observed in Kohima, Tuensang and Jalukie on November 20 under the common theme, “Role of Cooperative in making India a $ 5 trillion economy and SDG”.

Kohima

Kohima: In Kohima, a weeklong programme, which commenced on November 14 concluded on Monday at conference hall, Red Cross Building, Kohima, organised by the office of the assistant registrar of Cooperative Societies Kohima.


Guest of honor, Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, Kumar Ramnikanth, emphasized on the unique strengths of Nagaland. He highlighted on the potential of the tourism and agriculture sectors, urging concerted efforts to understand and harness their capabilities instead of simply imitating others. He stressed on the importance of sustainability, expressing concern about the current environmental pollution and its potential impact on future generations. Ramnikanth encouraged a sustainable approach to development and emphasized the uniqueness of the Naga way of life.


The DC also called for seizing opportunities in the market while showcasing the state’s potential for organic produce, highlighting the role of cooperative societies in achieving these goals. He urged the people of Nagaland to unite and share their success stories, emphasizing the need to overcome existing divisions and build strong relationships within the state.


Ramnikanth also urged the department and relevant individuals to raise awareness and provide education to the public. Highlighting the positive contributions of even the smallest countries to the world, he emphasized that the Naga people can also excel and make significant contributions.


He stressed on the importance of every contribution to the country and advised everyone to move beyond their comfort zones in order to actively contribute to society and elevate the state to greater heights.


In his keynote address, DRCS Kohima Rokovisa Chase emphasized on the significance and benefits of cooperative societies in the agricultural sector, highlighting various available schemes. He also emphasized on the government’s recognition of the crucial role played by the cooperative sector in assisting people in the agricultural industry.


Additionally, he noted the current underutilization of the cooperative movement in Nagaland and the state government’s efforts to promote these societies, despite the existence of over 8000 societies covering only 30% of the population. Furthermore, he underscored 27 essential schemes designed to support these societies.


Chase further explained that the Cooperative department is responsible for registering societies and does not directly implement schemes. Once registered, societies are able to approach the department to access various schemes and facilities. Subsequently, it is up to the societies to determine their needs, while the department can offer assistance in facilitating their endeavours, he stated.


The programme was earlier blessed with invocation by Menguno Koso. SRCS, Tseminyu Tesenmo Thong pronounced the vote of thanks. Later the programme was followed by a technical session. Executive Assistant (M&E) Food Processing Section, Department of Industries and Commerce Keren Swu, Sector Manager NSCB Luidi Zeliang spoke in programmes and scheme for cooperative societies under banking sector. Zynorique initiative, Agri production and marketing coop society, Kohima Ar. Richard Belho shared on constrains, problems and potentials of marketing in the context of Nagaland way forward.

Tuensang: Tuensang witnessed the commemoration of the 70th All India Co-operative Week organized by the Assistant Registrar of Co-operative Society Tuensang at CKS Hall Tuensang, revolved around the theme. The occasion was graced by Deputy Commissioner Tuensang, Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa, as the guest of honour.


Addressing the gathering, Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa emphasized on the significance of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the UN. She drew attention to the presence of registered societies in every village of Tuensang district, noting that while many societies exist, several exhibit zero performance in transactions.


Stressing the potential of Tuensang in organic vegetable production, she urged Self Help Groups (SHGs) to specialize in a single product and establish marketing linkages to uplift the economic status of societies.


She further called upon the Department of Co-operation to implement all central programmes in the district, ensuring widespread benefits for the local populace.


The programme was chaired by Kiutsumong LDA, keynote address was delivered by Joint Registrar of Co-operative Tuensang, I. Chume Chang, short speeches were delivered by chairman of Life Elachi Agri and Allied Society Ltd., Patsoi and vote of thanks was proposed by Chembise.

Peren: The 70th All India Cooperative Week, organized by Assistant Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Peren, at Women Welfare Hall, Jalukie Town. The inaugural session was graced by ADC Peren & Administrator Peren Town Council, Keyiranding Hegui as the special guest.


Keyiranding Hegui in his inaugural speech, stressed on the motive behind the formation of cooperative societies and the need to strengthen the cooperative sectors in the district.

Speaking on how other states are working towards increasing their economy, he encouraged the societies to work hard as the government was trying to help them in the best way possible and also advised them to value their economy and realise it. He also urged them to refrain from mismanagement of funds received from the government in order to maintain transparency and accountability to take the district forward.


Hegui further reminded the gathering about the “Winter Carnival-cum-Orchid Festival” which is scheduled to be held from December 6 to 10 at Carnival Village, Tepuiki-Peren where interested societies can take part during the event.


Earlier, SRCS i/c Assistant Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Peren, Zaevituo Angami, in his keynote address thanked the Cooperators for their prompt response in attending the programme as informed within a short notice. He also highlighted the different topics of the week-long celebration, its objectives, achievements and the strategies for way forward.


The programme was chaired by ICS, Keheiyile, while short speech was delivered by BOD NStCB Ltd, Zangdi Domta, and vote of thanks was proposed by ICS, Kikrusalie Medoze.
