
Minister of Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Tokheho Yepthomi, graced the 70th Independence Day celebrations at DDSC stadium, Dimapur as chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Tokheho said the PHE department has provided drinking water supply to 41 not covered/partially covered habitations under the National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP). The minister also said that roof top rain water harvesting structures in eight habitations, rejuvenation of traditional wells in 74 habitations, solar powered water supply in two habitations and surface water harvesting structures in two habitations were constructed during 2015-16 under NRDWP.
Under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Gramin), Tokheho said 22,617 units of individual latrines, 164 community sanitary complexes and 17 solid waste management units were constructed during 2015-16. Further, 161 villages were declared Open Defecation Free, he added. The minister also highlighted other key achievements made in several sectors by the state government.
Earlier, the chief guest inspected the parade contingents followed by distribution of awards to five best ATMA farmers of Dimapur district. Other highlights of the programme included inauguration of exhibition stalls cum sale under the banner of ATMA Dimapur by the chief guest.
Excise & prohibition department Dimapur also displayed seized items in one of the stalls, 32 AR HQ-6 Sector displayed ‘know your army weapons and equipment’.
The celebration witnessed entertainment, extravaganza and cultural show by Musik-A (Alobo Naga school of music), dog show by 173 Bn CRPF. Besides, cultural items were presented by Shena Old union Dimapur area Purana Bazar, Narsen Lotha cultural club, Diphupar Lotha Baptist church and Garo cultural troupe Garo Baptist church, Eralibill.
After the celebration, there was a football exhibition match between Dimapur veterans football association Vs Dimapur referee association.
