The 72nd Phom Day (Peace Day) and 4th Triennial Peace Summit will be observed on June 6, at Public Ground, Longleng. Dr. Wati Aier, convenor Forum for Naga Reconciliation; former principal, Oriental Theological Seminary (OTS); Asia Pacific Ambassador and Recipient of Baptist World Alliance Peace Award will grace the occasion as special guest.
According to DIPR report, Phom Day marks the end of headhunting era in the Phom area and beginning of peace and harmony amongst the Phoms. On June 6, 1952, elders from various villages, led by head dobashi, late. Hamnyei and late.Yongtau, gathered at Longleng and decided to put an end to the headhunting practice, where the people from the Phom community pledged to live peacefully and in harmony.
