73rd Phom Day observed in Longleng

Longleng marked the 73rd Phom Day (Peace Day) on June 6, 2025, celebrating the end of headhunting and the beginning of peace among the Phom community under the theme “Peace Within, Peace Beyond.”
On the occasion, B. Bangtick Phom, MLA, unfurled the Phom Day flag, followed by a parade featuring contingents from schools, scouts, guides, and the 12th IR Chongtok Band Party.
In his address, Bangtick reflected on the sacrifices of past leaders who laid the foundation for peace, urging the community to uphold their legacy through active reconciliation and harmony.
Deputy Commissioner Longleng, W. Manpai Phom, emphasized the need for progress and collective responsibility, encouraging development, education, and women’s empowerment. Additional Superintendent of Police H. Hiatwa Irulu praised the Phom People Council’s commitment to peace and urged continued cooperation to resolve conflicts peacefully.
The event featured speeches by PPC president Y.B. Angam Phom and Phom Day Commission convenor Nuklu Phom. Awards were presented by Phom Students Conference, recognizing individuals for their contributions.
Cultural performances, including folk melodies, a peace-themed play, and traditional dances, enriched the occasion, alongside peace-promoting games such as soccer and volleyball. The day concluded with the affirmation of the Phom Day Pledge and a prayer of blessings led by community pastors.
The celebration reinforced the Phom community’s commitment to peace, unity, and sustainable progress. This was stated in a DIPR report.
