Dimapur district joined the rest of the country in celebrating the 74th Republic Day at Dimapur District Sports Complex (DDSC) here on Thursday with PHED minister Jacob Zhimomi unfurling the tricolour flag.
Extending greetings to the people, Jacob Zhimomi said that Nagaland had made significant strides in terms of development.
He pointed out that from a meagre 22% in 1961, the literacy rate in the State stood at 80.11% in 2021 as per the National Statistical office data. He claimed that the State’s average literacy rate was higher than the national average.
Jacob said that Nagaland was second to none and that there were many opportunities that were coming in the way. He however said that one needed to be focused and persistent in the pursuit of highest knowledge and service towards community and humanity.
“Each of us in whatever profession we are in, we better perform with our socially enterprising mindset and give back to the community and the nation”, the minister stated.
Jacob also reiterated the State government’s commitment to ensuring peace and progress. He also highlighted various welfare initiatives of the government.
Earlier, Jacob inspected the parade comprising of eight contingents from Commissioner of Police Dimapur, 15th NAP (IR) Mahila Bn, Home Guard, Ex-Servicemen, NCC Dimapur, Govt College, Govt High School, Burma Camp; Govt High School, Lingrijan, 43 AR Band Platoon,led by parade Commander Imkongsangba Jamir, ACP East Dimapur and 2 I/c, Neichuzo Rio (ABI Police Commissionerate).
Other highlights of the programme included a march past, cultural dance by Aiko Cultural Troupe Pimla, special song by students of Holy Cross Higher Secondary School, dance by students of Pranab Vidyabith Higher Secondary School and inauguration of stalls by the minister. In the evening session, there were prize distribution and a retreat by the 43rd Assam Rifles.
