Eight apex tribal hohos of Nagaland- Angami Public Organization, Ao Senden, Lotha Hoho, Chakhesang Public Organisation, Pochury Hoho, Rengma Hoho, SümiHoho, and Nagaland Zeliang Public Organisation- have reiterated their appeal to the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) leaders to “reconsider their stance and join hands with the rest of the Naga community”.
In a statement on behalf of the eight tribal hohos, sessional chairman Razouvotuo Chatsu and sessional general secretary Dr. Vihuto Asumi, emphasized that unity among Nagas was now more crucial than ever, “to stand united in our pursuit of self-determination”. They said any further disintegration or fragmentation of the Naga family would only serve to weaken the collective resolve and delay the realization of the shared goals.
The signatories recalled the rich history of unity and resilience among the Nagas in their quest for self-determination, despite facing numerous challenges and sacrifices for over half a century. They also underscored the collective resolve of various Naga tribal groups in pursuing shared aspirations, despite the unresolved Indo-Naga political issue and prolonged negotiations with the Government of India. They said that despite setbacks and challenges, Nagas have remained steadfast in their commitment to achieving a just and honourable solution to their political aspirations.
Further, the signatories noted the discussions within ENPO regarding a separate “entity” and acknowledged the historical and cultural significance of ENPO’s concerns. However, the signatories emphasized the importance of considering the broader context of the Naga struggle for self-determination. They reiterated the long-held dream of a united and inclusive future where all Naga tribes stand together in pursuit of common goals.
“The strength of the Naga movement lies in its diversity. The various Naga tribes bring unique perspectives, traditions, and experiences to the table, enriching the collective struggle for self-determination,” the signatories said. However, they noted that the diversity should not be a cause for division but rather a source of strength and resilience.
The signatories maintained that by standing together, united in the shared vision for the future, the Nagas can overcome any obstacles that stand in the way of their aspirations.
“As we navigate the complexities of the Indo-Naga political issue, let us not lose sight of the fundamental principle that unites us all– the right to self-determination,” they stated.
The signatories also called upon all to draw strength from the shared history, culture, and aspirations to work towards a future where all Naga tribes can live in peace, harmony, and dignity. “Together, we can overcome any challenges that lie ahead and pave the way for a brighter tomorrow for generations to come,” they added.
