DIMAPUR, AUG 15 (NPN): Nagaland joined the rest of the nation in celebrating the 80th Independence Day with programmes held across districts marked by flag hoisting, parade inspections, cultural performances, awards presentations and inauguration of exhibition stalls.
In Mon, Deputy Chief Minister & Border Affairs, Yanthungo Patton graced the celebration as special guest. The programme began with the National Song, flag hoisting, National Anthem, parade inspection and address. A march past by ten contingents was led by parade commander Mankap T. Konyak, NPS. Institutional visits were also undertaken to the District Jail, District Hospital, Orphanage Home, Old Age Home, and District De Addiction Centre.
In Peren, Deputy Chief Minister T.R. Zeliang attended as special guest. The programme featured flag hoisting, Rashtriya Salute, parade inspection and address. The parade was commanded by Dy. SP Ronvungthung Yanthan, with ABI Toviho Sema as second in command. District commendation awards, cultural presentations and exhibition stalls were highlights.
In Chümoukedima, Minister C.L. John graced the event. The programme included parade inspection, address, and presentation of commendation awards. ATMA Chümoukedima released the Strategic Research and Extension Plan (SREP) 2026, Compendium of Activities 2025 26, and Indigenous Technical Knowledge (ITK). Farmers Awards were also presented.
In Tuensang, Minister Temjen Imna Along hoisted the flag and delivered the address. The parade was commanded by Dr. Akash Sinha, IPS, with L. Lanu Akum Chang as second in command. Awards were presented, stalls inaugurated, and entertainment included band displays and cultural troupes.
In Mokokchung, Minister Metsubo Jamir unfurled the flag and presented District Commendation Awards to nine individuals. The march past was commanded by Zareni Yanthan, NPS. Cultural dances by Mangmetong Cultural Club, Gorkha Union, and Longtrok Senden Ungma added colour.
In Longleng, Minister G. Kaito Aye hoisted the flag and inspected 11 contingents led by Chibeni Ezung. District awards were presented across officer, staff, social service, literature, arts, music and academics. Cultural highlights included a song by P. Manchai Phom, Taekwondo demonstration and folk dances.
In Tseminyu, Minister P. Paiwang Konyak announced that the Department of Health & Family Welfare has submitted a proposal for a Greenfield AIIMS at Nagaki City, Chümoukedima. He highlighted TB free initiatives and Ayushman coverage. The programme included parade contingents, awards and stalls.
In Zunheboto, Minister Jacob Zhimomi graced the event. District awards were presented to departments and individuals, while eight farmers received District Level Farmer Awards. Institutional visits were undertaken to the District Hospital, District Jail, and Orphanage Home Sukhalu.
In Shamator, Minister Bashangmongba Chang hoisted the flag, inspected the parade and presented district awards. The march past was led by Pitovi Sema. Cultural troupes from Kihoto Theological College, Emerald Academy, Lünsoberü Club, Mongtsüwong, and Alipok performed.
In Phek, Advisor Tongpang Ozukum hoisted the flag, inspected the parade and delivered the address. Exhibition stalls were inaugurated by twelve departments and self help groups.
In Meluri, Advisor Z. Nyusietho Nyuthe hoisted the flag and administered the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan pledge. The parade was commanded by Vedupe Lasuh, NPS, with Rovi Krocha as second in command. MLA Dr. Neisatuo Mero inaugurated stalls.
In Niuland, Advisor Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome hoisted the flag and presented awards to five progressive farmers. Demonstrations by the Niuland Pencak Silat Association and a Sümi war dance were highlights.
In Noklak, Advisor Wangpang Konyak hoisted the flag and presented Best Farmer Awards. He inaugurated stalls, flagged off Agri Link Transportation Trucks under the Chief Minister’s Micro Finance Initiative, and launched the Har Ghar Tiranga Rally.
In Bhandari, advisor Achumbemo Kikon hoisted the flag and addressed the gathering. The lone parade contingent was led by ABI Tiatemjen Ao. Exhibition stalls were set up by Nagaland State Seed Farm, APMC, SDIC, Veterinary Department, and Siyen Openro SHG.
WOKHA: In Wokha, Advisor Mhathung Yanthan hoisted the flag and inspected contingents.
It was followed by officials visit to various institutions including Senior Citizens Home under Wokha IRCS, Founding Harbour Children’s Home supported by Team Metamorphosis, Morning Star Children’s Home under WDCCI, District Jail through Lotha Eloe Hoho, and Dr. Motsuo Memorial District Hospital, where SBI Wokha Main Branch also extended support.
The formal programme commenced with the arrival of the special guest, followed by the National Song and flag hoisting by Yanthan. He took the Rashtriya Salute as the National Anthem was played, inspected parade contingents and delivered the Independence Day address.
Highlights included presentation of district awards and commendation certificates, march past, cultural performances and departmental stalls showcasing products and services.
Stalls attracted visitors with participation from self help groups, government departments, village organisations and institutions including Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, Fisheries & Aquatic Resources, Social Welfare, KVK Wokha, ATMA Wokha, Wokha District Legal Services Authority, Medical Team Wokha, Nzan Naga Craft, Wokha Circle Federation and several SHGs and VLOs.

KIPHIRE: In Kiphire, advisor Kuzholuzo Neinu delivered the Independence Day speech and took the salute of ten contingents. District awards were conferred on 13 officials, while farmers also received recognition. Cultural performances and stalls marked the occasion.
Cultural performances were presented by Thangthure Village Union Kiphire, Tikhir Union Kiphire, and Sumi Women Hoho Kiphire. Special songs were rendered by Leochum and Albert Sangtam, while Agape Higher Secondary School staged a drill display and Lisula Sangtam sang a patriotic number. At Tizit, Mon, ADC C. Phuniang hoisted the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute. The programme featured patriotic items by Mendan Konyak, National Anthem by Wangnao Yato, and sweet distribution by the Industries Department.
At Noksen, Tuensang, SDO (C) Khiongmong hoisted the National Flag, took the Rashtriya Salute from Alpha Coy, 3rd NAP, and delivered the Independence Day speech. Students of Government High School Noksen and Wedoshi Thangjam presented special items, while Kongkin Folk Fusion performed at the conclusion.
At Changtongya, Mokokchung, SDO (C) Sangpangchang hoisted the National Flag, took the Rashtriya Salute and delivered the Independence Day speech. The programme began with the singing of Vande Mataram.
At Pfutsero HQ, Phek, ADC Mhalo Humtsoe hoisted the National Flag, took the Rashtriya Salute and read out the Independence Day message. The programme included National Song, National Anthem and concluded with the Beating of Retreat by SDPO, police station, Pfutsero.
At Monyakshu, Mon, SDO (C) C. Wangan hoisted the National Flag, took the Rashtriya Salute from NVG Changlangshu Village, and delivered the Independence Day speech. Baptist High School sang the National Anthem.
At Longkhim, Tuensang, ADC Anoka H. Assumi hoisted the National Flag, took the Rashtriya Salute from Longkhim Police Personnel, and delivered the Independence Day speech.
At Tuli, Mokokchung, ADC Imsenperong Wati hoisted the National Flag, took the Rashtriya Salute and delivered the Independence Day speech.
At Aboi, Mon, ADC MS Thangpong hoisted the National Flag, received the Rashtriya Salute and inaugurated exhibition stalls. Cultural highlights included performances by KU unit Ngangching Union and KNSK unit Langmeing Union. The programme concluded with the Beating of Retreat.
At Mangkolemba, Mokokchung, ADC Moakumzük Tsudir hoisted the National Flag, inspected the parade and inaugurated stalls by Agri & Allied departments and SHGs.
At Atoizu, Zunheboto, EAC Dr. Samuel Akho Konyak hoisted the National Flag, took the Rashtriya Salute and delivered the Independence Day speech. The programme concluded with the Beating of Retreat.
At Jakhama, Kohima, SDO (C) Vineikho Tetso hoisted the National Flag, took the Rashtriya Salute from Khuzama Police Station and delivered the Independence Day speech.
At Pungro, Kiphire, ADC Hotolu Sema hoisted the National Flag, received Rashtriya Salute from nine parade contingents and inaugurated cultural presentations by schools and associations.
At Pughoboto, Zunheboto, ADC James T. Khulu Tikhir hoisted the National Flag, received the Rashtriya Salute from 8th NAP A Coy, and delivered the Independence Day speech. The programme featured cultural songs, exhibitions, and presentation of Subdivision Awards to Khekaho Achumi and Hosto H. Wotsa.
At Chiephobozou, Kohima, ADC Vekusheyi Rhakho hoisted the National Flag, took the Rashtriya Salute and delivered the Independence Day speech. Parade contingents included Ex-Servicemen, Chiechama and 10th IRB Zhadima. The celebration concluded with a volleyball tournament and Beating of Retreat.
At Satakha, Zunheboto, ADC Satakha hoisted the National Flag, took Rashtriya Salute and inaugurated stalls by SHGs and 111 Bn BSF. The programme featured cultural activities, tug-of-war and concluded with the Beating of Retreat.
At Tamlu, Longleng, ADC T. Lankonsen Tsanglao hoisted the National Flag, took Rashtriya Salute and inaugurated exhibition stalls. The programme included cultural presentations, football exhibition match and Beating of Retreat.
At Naginimora, Mon, ADC N. Zubenthung Ngullie hoisted the National Flag, took Rashtriya Salute and delivered the Independence Day speech.
At Seyochung, Kiphire, ADC Chumlamo Humtsoe hoisted the National Flag, took Rashtriya Salute from three contingents and inaugurated stalls by SHGs and departments.
At Phomching, Mon, SDO (C) Vejoyo Swuro hoisted the National Flag, took Rashtriya Salute from Village Guards and delivered the Independence Day speech.
Gov hoists National Flag at Lok Bhavan
DIMAPUR: Nagaland governor Nand Kishore Yadav hoisted the National Tricolour at Lok Bhavan, Kohima, on the occasion of the 80th Independence Day on Saturday.
According to a DIPR report, the flag was hoisted with due solemnity, marking the celebration of India’s 80th year of Independence and honouring the sacrifices and contributions of freedom fighters who laid the foundation for a free and sovereign nation.
The ceremonial flag hoisting was attended by officers, staff and security personnel of the Governor’s Secretariat.
