Altogether 8136 youth from Nagaland have been trained and 5,276 given placement in various establishments, including 22 international placements under Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY).
This was informed by Imtimenla, additional secretary, RD and Mission Director (MD), NSRLM, while delivering key note address at the combined induction program for DDU-GKY training initiative at Naga United Village, Chumoukedima on March 25.
DDU-GKY, which aims to skill the rural youth and provide them with jobs, is an initiative under the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India and seeks to uplift the lives of poor youth and their households.
Emphasizing the program’s success in redirecting youth towards skill development and gainful employment, Imtimenla, also revealed that those placements contribute over Rs. 7 crore rupees in monthly earnings to the workforce, and encouraged the trainees to maintain sincerity and dedication in their training and subsequent employment.
Minister of Rural Development & SIRD, Metsubo Jamir, who graced the event as special guest, in his short speech, expressed pride in witnessing the youth’s journey towards self-reliance.
“Survival means standing on your own feet,” he said and urged the trainees to serve as ambassadors for Nagaland, emphasizing the importance of establishing a strong identity and demonstrating sincerity in the private sector.
Thavaseelan K, commissioner and secretary, Rural Development & SIRD, highlighted Nagaland’s exemplary performance in implementing DDU-GKY, noting its crucial role in addressing unemployment amidst saturated government job markets.
Testimonials were shared by beneficiaries and their families. BT Tomwang Wangsa Konyak, a DDU-GKY beneficiary, recounted his transformative training experience, which not only shaped his professional life but also equipped him to navigate challenges like racism encountered while working outside Nagaland.
He now holds a successful career in the cruise industry, demonstrating the program’s potential for global opportunities.
The event underscored the NSRLM’s commitment to empowering Nagaland’s youth through skill development and employment opportunities, contributing to the state’s socio-economic progress. The event was also attended by Polan John, DC Chumoukedima and senior officers from the department.
