DIMAPUR, JUL 11 (NPN): The 8th Nagaland State Angling Competition, organised by the Anglers Association Nagaland (ANN) in collaboration with Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, concluded at Hooks and Horizon, Vihokhu Village, Niuland district.
The event witnessed the participation of 225 anglers from across Nagaland as well as neighbouring states of Meghalaya and Assam.
In the competition, Ayevi Kera secured the first prize with a catch weighing 2.34 kg and walked away with a cash award of Rs. 1,20,000. Nikaho and Sunika bagged the second prize and third prize, receiving Rs 70,000 and Rs 30,000 respectively. Both anglers caught fishes weighing 2.08 kg, however since Nikaho caught the fish earlier, he was adjudged second and Sunika third as per the tournament’s rules and regulations.
The organisers later informed that the top three winners would be awarded free tickets to participate in the Hornbill Angling Festival 2026.
Special recognitions were also presented during the event, with Nchumthung Ngullie, aged 13, adjudged as the youngest angler, while Kivikali was awarded for the biggest catch in the female category with a fish weighing 1.09 kg.
Earlier, ANN president Mhonbemo Ngullie, delivered the welcome address, highlighting the importance of promoting sustainable angling and conservation of aquatic resources and also thanked all anglers for the participation.
