NSDMA conducts community first responder trg

Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Home Department, in collaboration with the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Kohima, conducted Community First Responder (CFR) training on disaster management with the Kohima Village Youth Organisation (KVYO) from August 31 to September 2 at Panchayat hall, Kohima Village.
Resource persons including personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (HG&CD), F&ES, MO Wokha Dr. Chibenthung Kithan, and Dist. comdt. HG&CD Mulai Lamnai trained the participants on various topics such as basic life support, fracture and splinting, bandaging, pre-hospital treatments, TRAIGE, improvised rescue techniques, uses of rope in rescue operation etc.
Forty youth (ten from each Khel) along with officials of the KVYO were trained.
Deputy Commissioner Kohima and OSD NSDMA gave exhortations on the first and last day respectively.
Meanwhile, NSDMA has informed it would soon be carrying out similar trainings in all the districts in a phased manner.
It may be noted that the CFR training is based on the understanding that the community is always the first to respond in times of disasters before external help arrives, hence the NSDMA envisions strengthening disaster management at the community levels by empowering them through CFR trainings.
